About

What is Hatching Hope?

Launched in 2018, Hatching Hope is a global initiative co-created by Heifer International and Cargill. Hatching Hope works with farmers, market actors and consumers in more than 10 countries. We partner with non-governmental agencies, governments and industry groups around the globe to improve nutrition and economic livelihoods by reaching 100 million people by 2030 through the production, promotion and consumption of poultry.

Why are chickens at the center of Hatching Hope?

  • Raising chickens can be relatively easy to establish

  • Chickens produce nutritious eggs every day

  • Chicken and eggs are good sources of low-cost,
    high-quality protein

  • Chickens are easy to feed, breed and bring to market

  • Chickens grow fast

  • Chicken farming provides women an opportunity to contribute to and influence household income

Hatching Hope offers participants extensive, ongoing training and access to improved biosecurity, housing, inputs and other resources.

Together with its donors and partners, Hatching Hope is creating opportunities for a new generation of farmers to improve incomes and access new markets.

Impacting Lives

Our big goal? To improve nutrition and economic livelihoods by reaching 100 million people by 2030 through the production, promotion, and consumption of poultry.

The result? Farmers prosper. Families eat. Business thrives. Communities flourish. And these results are sustained through self-sufficiency, improved economic conditions and healthier people.

Where we’re making an impact

Cargill and Heifer International prioritized India, Kenya and Mexico. Today, working with partners like CARE, Save the Children and others, we are working around the world and working to expand the program into other countries.
